Learn more about the coastal ocean sensor share program

We propose a bold vision for conducting ocean science. While the coastal ocean is essential to the well-being and long-term sustainability of humanity, our scientific knowledge of coastal ecosystems falls woefully short.

We are implementing a new model that addresses social, economic, political, and logistical factors that impede participation in coastal investigations and stewardship.

Our aim is to produce a science research model that increases access to coastal ocean science through instruments and community relationships. Our new model will build on familiar tenets of the share economy developed to respond to the needs of coastal ocean research and science.

This share model is currently under development.  If you are interested in getting involved, we are looking for collaborators for our pilot programs and testers for our new blue carbon sensors.

Portable

Picture
We are passionate about making sensors and sensors packages that are easy to use while still providing high quality data. To do this we are working to test currently available sensors as well as to develop our own sensor packages. Ultimately we will provide sensor kits that are ready to be used.

Affordable

Picture
Science is expensive. Often the questions being asked and the data collected are driven by a select group of individuals that can afford the latest sensors. We want to help change this by increasing access to sensors for individuals and organizations who are eager to help better understand coastal ecosystems.

Accessible

Ultimately we aim to create a platform that allows access to sensors and the data they collect to anyone interested in coastal science.

Coastal blue Carbon Sensors

We are currently in the development phase of our first sensor packages for quantifying coastal carbon.  Our affordable, ultra-portable sensors measure concentrations and fluxes of both carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) in air.   If you or your organization are interested in trying out the sensors in this pilot phase let us know below.
